GIANYAR – The Grand Final of Miss Universe Asia 2025 officially took place in Bali on Thursday, May 1, 2025. Held at Varuna, Marine Safari Bali within the Bali Safari & Marine Park, the event featured 28 finalists from four countries competing in one of Asia’s most prestigious beauty pageants. This marked the first time the grand final was held in Bali, further enhancing the island’s global image as a premier tourism destination.
More than just a beauty contest, the event served as a strategic platform to introduce Bali’s rich culture and iconic tourist destinations to an international audience. The decision to host the grand final in Bali was made by the central organizer from China, recognizing the island’s immense popularity in global tourism.
Lentono, Director of Cocos Tour Indonesia and official license holder of Miss Universe Asia in Indonesia, explained that the finalists’ presence was not only about competing, but also about carrying the mission of cultural and tourism promotion.
“The finalists are here not only to promote Bali’s tourism but also to be introduced to Balinese culture. This is a great moment to showcase our local heritage to the world,” said Lentono during the event at Varuna.
Prior to the grand finale, all contestants had entered a quarantine period beginning April 28, 2025. During this time, they underwent intensive training, including choreography, communication skills, as well as Balinese dance and culture lessons.
“We want the finalists to deeply understand Balinese cultural values. It’s not just about beauty, but about grasping the spirit of the place where they’re performing,” Lentono added.
A total of 28 participants from four countries took part in the competition. Indonesia had the highest number of contestants at 18, followed by China with 8, and Russia with 2 participants. Among them, five contestants were from Bali, representing the grace and uniqueness of Balinese women. Originally, 30 participants were expected, but two withdrew due to health issues.
Contestants were judged not only on their physical appearance, but also on behavior, intelligence, and adaptability during the quarantine period.
“Judging began the moment they arrived in Bali on April 28. Every activity and interaction during that period became part of the scoring process,” said Lentono.
A unique highlight of the event was the use of traditional Balinese endek fabric worn by the finalists. The inclusion of kain endek in this international event was seen as a strategic move to promote Balinese culture and creative industries on a global stage. The finalists’ elegant looks in endek garnered attention, blending grace with tradition.
“This is a golden opportunity to promote kain endek. We want to show that local culture can shine on the international stage,” Lentono stated.
The contestants responded very positively to the grand final being held in Bali. Many were visiting the island for the first time and were captivated by its natural beauty and the warmth of its people.
“The response has been incredible. For most of the participants, this was their first time in Bali. They were thrilled by the beautiful scenery, rich culture, and Balinese cuisine. It was an unforgettable experience for them,” he said.
With the successful hosting of Miss Universe Asia 2025, hopes are high that Bali will continue to serve as a prime venue for other international events. More than just a celebration of beauty, this pageant has proven to be a valuable cultural and tourism ambassador for Indonesia on the global stage.
